Make Your Fireplace Easier To Use

What Are Gas Burners?

Gas burners are a convenient way to enjoy an open fire without the work and mess of real wood. Their "instant on" ability means no paper, no kindling, no smoke. Just turn it on, sit back and enjoy. Gas burners give you the freedom to start and stop the fire at will, no more sitting up waiting for the fire to die down enough so you can close the doors and go to bed, no more having to try to remember to close the damper the next morning to stop the heat loss up the flue. Turn it off, close the damper and then forget it.

Today we have many options to customize the style of a gas burner system. Weather you like the traditional look of logs or the more modern look of broken glass (fire on ice), stones or ceramic shapes, there is a design to fit any decor.

Gas Burner vs. Gas Insert

People often refer to gas burners and gas inserts as one in the same, they are not! They both burn gas and are fun to watch, but that's where the similarities end.

Although the gas burner will put out comforting warmth it is designed for enjoyment purposes only and should not be considered an efficient heat source. The gas burner will typically consume 3 to 5 times the amount of gas as compaired to a true insert, with limited heat benefit. When used for its intended purpose, the gas burner can provide an evenings worth of comfort, relaxation and entertainment for around $1.00/hr. (Have you priced an evening at the movies lately?)

A gas insert on the other hand can be of significant benefit to efficiently heating the home. A typical insert in the 30k btu range can heat an area up to 1000 sq ft with an efficiency rating rivaling that of a standard home furnace. When used as part of a zone heating program,  (keeping the whole house at a lower temperature, then using theninsert to raise the comfort level in the main living area), it can be a money saving investment.
